A Quiet Patch-Mindfulness

At noon on Thursday the 3rd of September, Maverick and I stood in the quiet warmth of Hilltop, the home of Beatrix Potter.  It felt only right to bring Cuddlewick here, a book about the magic of small busy things. Standing in the cradle of pastoral storytelling but tucked away in my pocket was something else. A tiny booklet, a precursor simply titled ‘A Faraway Fellow’, written eight years ago. I put this sample together in a time when things were at their darkest.  My tremor got the better of me, fighting for control and threatening to take my peace away.

In response, I focussed what energy I had, into making this tiny booklet.  It was my quiet rebellion against my own body.  Holding it at Hilltop, I realised that the tremor didn’t win.  The seed planted, whilst in immense pain all those years ago, is the exact reason Cuddlewick exists today.
